Why cant i install any operating sys by cd or dvd?

A little backgroud is that i wanted to dual boot linux and vista and i partioned the drive wrong so now im trying to reinstall linux and my computer is not reading any cds. I have the cd/dvd as first priorit on my boot sequence and i have an amd64 iso file cause my sys is 64 bit. any ideas? thanks guys
